Research on Spoofs

The conventions of a spoof are as follows, exaggerated stereotypes, mocking of other film genres, sarcasm, characters with silly names. In our film we have tried to use these genres to make our film be known as a spoof of James Bond. We have exaggerated the stereotype of blonde people being dumb by having Janet Blond being blonde. We have mocked the film genre of James Bond as our title is Janet Blond and our film storyline is a mission for Janet Blond to keep the chip safe that has important information stored on it which James Bond films share similar story lines.We have also included sarcasm when Janet Blond walks in on the burglars trying to steal the chip.We have looked at the films Austin Powers and Johnny English which are the types of film with similar conventions that we are trying to achieve in our own film opening and both of these films have these conventions which i have stated above.

These results show that the target audience for our film is 16 and 17 year olds as our results show that many people of this age range have seen James Bond and only a small percentage haven't which means that people of this age will understand our film and they will get the jokes that are included in our spoof. When we asked question 10 a large proportion of people like mission actions which is what our film is about. These results show evidence of that people know what a spoof is and that they have watched James Bond which makes our target audience 16 and 17 years olds. From these results we have decided that the certificate we are going to use for our film is certificate 15 because we think this is an appropriate age for our film.

 

Our Film opening

Our group has decided to do a spoof of James Bond called Janet Blond which is going to be a comedy. We are going to use a blond actress in our film opening to go on the stereotype of blonde haired people being stupid which will add to the humour of our film. The storyline is going to be based on a similar storyline which the producers of James Bond would do as its going to have a top sercet mission which is going to be introduced near to the end of our opening when the boss of the missions has a web chat with Janet Blond to discover her new mission that will lead into the rest of the film.

The institutions we are going to use in our film opening are New line Cinema and one that we have created ourselves called Lovely Jubbly HD which is all our initials put together we thought that this would be a good institution for our kind of film of it being a comedy.
We are going to start our opening with these institutions and then it goes to an extreme close up of a memory chip in a glass box in a laser controlled dark room this shows the importance of the information on the chip which later on in the film the audience will find out. Then the camera sees movement in the room of burglars which are trying to steal the chip, but as the genre of our film is a comedy we are going to locate this dark room in Janet Blonds house and she disturbs these burglars trying to take the chip by walking in with her pjamas on. She then fights them in different ways which will entertain the audience which will also introduce the narrative of how the film will carry on by the silly things Janet Blond does. All through the action scenes the titles will appear for the actors and actresses, director, producer, and the other cast members of our film.

Film Analysis: Taken

This film opening clearly shows the main characters,narrative and genre of the film, and what it will entail. In the first scene that is shown, a young girl is having her fifth birthday with her mother by her side and then as soon as she blows her candles out it flashes to the girls father, this suggests he is remenising about her past birthdays. Its as if he doesn't get to see her very much. The soundtrack through out this scene is sad and it sounds like something is going to happen to the girl as it is played over her birthday clip.

The narrative of this film opening suggests two different things because Brian (played by Liam Neeson) the main character feels like his daughter has been taken away by his ex wifes new husband who is very wealthy and buys her everything that she could ever want for her birthday. On her 17th birthday which is the present day her step father buys her a horse and gives it to her after her biological father gives her a karaoke machine. This shows rivalry between the two father figures in the girls life. This suggests he has lost her to another man. The first five minutes of the film opening also shows the girls vunerable side because her character comes across as needy in the way of her needing her family around her all of the time. This could show the narrative of how vunerable she really is when watching the rest of the film.

I have chosen media studies as one of my subjects at As level because i enjoyed it at Gcse level and i would like to study it to a greater depth. I feel that media will teach me more of how to analyse a topic by looking at it from different angles. I particularly enjoyed researching and designing magazines and newspapers. I am really looking forward to creating a film within my group as this is something i haven't done before. I am also interested in learning how to edit a piece of film.
